November 2018 - Passage of "Promote the Vote" Brings Changes to Election Law

The passage of Proposal 3 in November of 2018, enshrined in the Michigan Constitution various changes related to the voting process. Chief among them are:

  • Protecting the right to vote a secret ballot.
  • Providing voters the option to vote a straight party ballot.
  • Allowing citizens to register to vote by mail until 15 days before an election.
  • Citizens can also register to vote in person with their City/Township Clerk's Office until 8:00 P.M. on Election night. 
  • Allows for all registered voters to vote absentee without needing to provide a reason.
  • Voters can register to vote at age 17.5 as long as they will be age 18 by the Election.
