Breastfeeding is encouraged as the preferred feeding for all infants, including premature newborns. Breast milk has many benefits for both mother and baby. Breastfed infants have decreased risk of diabetes, asthma, allergies, and ear infections. We have designated breastfeeding peer counselors, Certified Lactation Consultants, and Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC) who can provide support to pregnant and breastfeeding mothers free of charge. Berrien County Breastfeeding Coalition
The Berrien County Breastfeeding Coalition is a group of individuals and organizations who work together to create a network of seamless resources for breastfeeding mothers, and support and promote breastfeeding in Berrien County. The group meets every other month and welcomes new members. Find the Berrien County Breastfeeding Coalition on Facebook or contact us if you want to know more about upcoming meetings and activities.
Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program
WIC promotes, supports and encourages mothers to breastfeed their babies as it has been shown to provide many health, nutrition, and emotional benefits to both mothers and babies. The WIC program provides pregnant and postpartum women with breastfeeding support and information to make the best informed decisions for their health as well as their new babies.
