Health equity is achieved when every person has the opportunity to attain his or her full health potential and no one is disadvantaged from achieving this potential because of social position or other socially determined circumstances. Health disparities or inequities, are types of unfair health differences closely linked with social, economic or environmental disadvantages that adversely affect groups of people.
The goal of Operation Storefront is to raise community awareness of the negative health impacts tobacco and alcohol advertising have in our community, especially for our youth. Young people who report a high level of exposure to tobacco advertisements are more likely to be smokers and also indicate they would be more likely to smoke in the future. Limiting tobacco and alcohol advertising can help improve our youth's health by preventing youth from engaging in underage drinking and using tobacco products.
